From optimized spam prevention to simplifying the media library - exciting new features await you in the next Primer update. Dive in and find out how you can make your Primer products even better!
In addition to various improvements in the areas of performance and accessibility, we are also introducing Drupal 10.2 with this update and updating the X icon (formerly Twitter).
The update will be rolled out to all Primer applications shortly.
Antibot: Fight against spam
Spam - a nuisance that affects us all. Whether contact form, newsletter subscription or registration, most websites use online forms. Although they are indispensable when it comes to interacting with a customer, they are also a target for spam bots.
With the introduction of Antibot on Primer, we want to reduce spam without getting on users' nerves. How does it work?
- No additional effort for users: Unlike reCAPTCHA, Antibot is an application that works completely behind the scenes. With the help of JavaScript, it can identify bots relatively reliably on online forms without the need to click checkboxes or solve image puzzles. Antibot works in the background without disturbing users.
- Optional replacement of reCAPTCHA and Honeypot: We do not automatically use Antibot as a replacement for reCAPTCHA or Honeypot. However, we are happy to activate the module at the customer's request.
- No cookies or third-party providers: We focus on data protection. Antibot uses neither cookies nor third-party services. This means that sensitive customer data is not sent or retrieved at any time.
- Additional tools: In addition, we automatically activate the perimeter module for all customers, which blocks bots that automatically search for typical vulnerabilities.
We generally recommend deactivating Recaptcha/Honeypot. At the moment, we have found that Antibot alone provides sufficient protection against spam. This has the advantage that the data is then no longer shared with this service, which leads to better data protection.
This can either be done by the customer for each form individually, or we can deactivate the integration completely. However, if it is reactivated in the future, this could result in additional costs. Another option is to manually disable Recaptcha on individual forms and if this works well, we can disable it completely on request.

Goodbye GIF and PNG
Along with the introduction of WebP, we are simplifying Primer's media management for users. It is no longer necessary to distinguish between different formats. The main reason for the separate media types GIF and PNG was the different presentation. GIFs are often animated, PNGs (typically logos, screenshots) were not cropped, while images were typically adapted to the desired output ratio (e.g. 16:9, 4:3). This is now controlled via a field on the media, which can also be changed at any time without having to manually convert and re-upload the file.
For this reason, the two media types GIF and PNG are removed and existing media are automatically converted to “Image”.
WebP: New image format available
WebP is a modern image format developed by Google. It offers better compression and quality compared to older formats such as JPEG and PNG. By using WebP, we can improve loading times and optimize the user experience. We have found that on websites that contain many and/or large images, up to 50% less data needs to be transferred!
From the next release, all images displayed will be automatically converted to WebP format. Nothing will change for our customers.
